AS THE debate heats up about how to combat the environmental damage from a booming aviation market, some travellers are turning to a slower, greener way of seeing the world.

Ansett yesterday launched itself back into the discount air fare market with a range of fares to help it compete with Qantas, which last week released one million discounted seats.

Consumer groups told bargain-hunters yesterday to forget about discount air fares for a month, and warned Qantas frequent flyers they might find it difficult to book seats using reward points for some time.
